Drum Carders
Howard Brush has commissioned
Anderson Originals to create 2 new drum carders that reflect
the quality and craftsmanship Howard Brush products are known
for...
The Lindsey (double drum)
The Lindsey: A quality inexpensive entry level
double drum carder that comes fully assembled and is made out
of solid, unfinished hardwood. The overall size is 15.5 x 14
inches (not including the 10 inch pull out wool tray). The swift
or main drum is 6.5 inches wide and 8 inches in diameter, the
feed drum or licker in is 6.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches in diameter
It will make a bat size of 6.5 x 22 inches, and is ideal for
most types of fibers.
The David (triple drum)
The David: A quality inexpensive premier triple
drum carder that comes fully assembled and is made out of solid,
unfinished hardwood. The overall size is 15 inches long (not
including the 10 inch pull out wool tray), 17 inches wide and
10 inches high. The main drum or swift is 8.5 inches wide and
8 inches in diameter and the other two drums are 8.5 inches wide
and 2.5 inches in diameter. It has a bat size of 8 x 22 inches,
and is ideal for most types of fibers. The advantage of the triple
drum carder is it takes only half as much turning to produce
the same quality bat.
Both carders are made in the USA by Anderson Originals
exclusively for Howard Brush. The Anderson Family has been working
and turning wood for five generations and are well known for
their fine hardwood furniture. Both carders are adjustment free
and made from solid hardwood - not particle board! Each drum
carder comes with an attached clamp so that it can be secured
to your work table for ease of use. Please email
us for more information on ordering or becoming a distributor
of our quality drum carders!
Some product information
on these drum carders - it has sharp, pointed wires so extreme
care must be taken in its use. Improper use may cause serious
injury - these drum carders are not designed to be motorized
and used under power!
Several months ago, I purchased your
David Drumcarder and I have to tell you how very, very pleased
with it. As a spinning teacher and fiber artist I have used all
types of drum carders, from garage sale antiques to the most
expensive. In my book, the David produces a batt that ranks with
the best. Not only does it do a fantastic job on carding fine
to medium wool, but it works well for blending. It is sturdy
(great for me as I take it on the road when I teach), affordable
and an excellent option for the fiber artist who wants a 3 cylinder
carder. Thank you for a great product! - John Pitblado |

I just did up more than a pound of
Shetland into beautiful batts, and then blended Merino Top and
Bamboo into a 50/50 to test how well it handles finer fibers.
I also ran a bit of rather rough "messy" clumpy Karakul
through, and after just two passes it came out ready to go. I
think I pretty much covered all the bases in regards to different
types of fibers. Perfect as far as I'm concerned. It's so heavily
constructed I didn't even bother with the table clamp and it
stayed right where it belonged. - Joseph |

Thought you might like to know that
the carding pads arrived today. I was amazed that they got here
so quickly! They are exactly what I was looking for, I have already
put them on my carders and they are doing a fine job on the angora/wool
blend that I wanted to card. Thank you for your help in choosing
them, and for the friendly and efficient way in which you dealt
with my order. - Karen T., in UK |
